The account of a woman who allegedly suffered a miscarriage and mismanagement at Kandang Kerbau Hospital (KKH) took the internet by storm the past couple of days. Her story was said to be untrue when KKH lodged a police report against the woman for making an incorrect claim on Mar 25.

According to Professor Alex Sia, CEO of KKH, there were discrepancies between the story and the bill information that was shared online.

“KKH would like to clarify that the online report on the incident at the Urgent Obstetrics and Gynaecology Centre (UOGC) is incorrect.” – Prof Alex Sia, CEO KKH, Straits Times

Wake Up Singapore (WUS), the Instagram page that first broke the news, released an apology for enabling a disgruntled reader to share a fabricated account on their platform.

The woman was contacted by WUS to notify her of the police report that was made against her by KKH. The woman then asked them to take down the post and apologised for putting the company through the ordeal.

She also claimed that her evidence was not doctored but her recount of the event was not accurate.

Netizens flooded the comments section with their views. They mentioned that WUS should have done their due diligence before publishing user submissions.

There is no way to know what truly happened unless the woman comes forward to share the actual account of her experience with KKH and what led her to come up with such a story.

Just because something is viralled and tugs on the heartstrings, doesn’t mean that it is true. Always take such stories with a pinch of salt.

The lesson learnt here for editorials is to have a neutral stance when it comes to user submitted anecdotal recounts and publish only the facts as much as possible.

Reporter’s Opinions: If you were not happy at the treatment that you received from the hospital, just share the facts. Why is there a need to spice it up with the gory details of bloody bed and miscarried foetus being disposed of? It sounds like a badly written horror movie.

If there was some negligence that caused you to suffer a miscarriage, then bring it up with the relevant authorities. Everyone just wants to viral everything nowadays when there are things that can be done silently.

Not everything deserved to be viralled. Personally, I still prefer the legal route if we cannot reach an amicable settlement. The five minutes of infamy against the one who caused you injustice will only satisfy you for a while.

The justice served when it’s proven via the legal route however, is priceless. It will teach them not to mess with you and learn to take accountability for their actions.
