Trending On Carousell, BTS Set Meals, Sold Much Higher Than Usual Price
The BTS meal craze hit our shores and within minutes, there were reports of the meal being sold out on all delivery platforms. McDonald’s Singapore made the meal available online only, perhaps to combat the queue situation in the current pandemic.

Even when the meal was made available online again, fans had to wait in queue online due to overwhelming demand. The meal reportedly took an average of an hour to reach hungry fans.
As expected, within hours of the launch, there are listings for the merchandise on Carousell. Pricings ranged from the affordable to the ridiculous. This innovative user decided to offer their services to help one score the meal.
This health conscious seller is kind enough to sanitize the packaging for a relatively low price.
Then there are the mid-range priced merch for serious collectors who perhaps would love to preserve the sauces for an apocalypse in the near future.
Here is when it starts to cross into the scalping territory. A user whose listing has since been delisted was one of the first few to put the packaging up for sale. At that price, one can have the BTS meal 3 times a day for a week or so.
Taking a leaf out of the “Among Us” nugget that sold for almost USD100k, these sellers are really trying their luck.
Why would anyone pay that amount for soggy fries and a single nugget is beyond comprehension but it is the age of capitalism.
This however takes the crown for scalper or troller of the year. One can always aim for the stars but this is taking it too far.
The meal in Singapore doesn’t come with the coveted purple paper bag but that didn’t stop die hard fans from still ordering the meal in solidarity with their favourite band.
However, this sweet gesture from a BTS fan deserves a commendable mention because kindness should always be appreciated.
Reporter’s Opinions:Why would anyone rush to get an overpriced 9 piece nuggets meal with sauces that are generic is beyond me.Give me BBQ sauce any day.
This however shows the power of branding. Fans are rushing to own what are literally pieces of paper printed with the band’s branding and iconic color. Years ago, we had people queuing up for merch like Hello Kitty. Today, the concept of merch seems to have been redefined.
I refuse to believe that “merch” has been reduced to literally paper boxes because that would be disrespecting creators who put in hours to procure and create their own iconic merchandise.
I really hope this is just a craze.
