TikTok Trend Shows M’sian Chemistry Graduate Working At KFC, Netizens Relate

A TikTok video by @ainxang which shows her displaying her degree and current job as part of a trend went viral recently with 2.4 million views. In the video, the Malaysian shows a clip of her collecting her Bachelor of Science with Honours (Chemistry) during her graduation ceremony, but pans to her current job working at KFC at the last minute.

The trend shows the stark contrast between the course taken and current occupation of the individual as well as the difficulty in securing a job related to their field of study. This garnered the attention of netizens and many shared similar experiences with her in the comments section.

Netizens share these mutual sentiments and they are accepting of the non-linear path that one has to take in their studies or career as their definition of success is constantly changing along with the erratic requirements of modern-day jobs.
Reporter’s Opinions: It does not matter if it’s local or overseas, the job market is uncertain so it’s always better to take up a job that’s completely irrelevant to our studies to gain experience and save money rather than being jobless with a piece of paper in our hands. With the coming recession, we don’t have much of a choice but to either suck thumb or complain and l much prefer the former.
