Based on the comments, the original poster (OP) had no idea the dish had nothing to do with Singapore. He had found the recipe online and wanted to share his attempt at the dish. He apologized for the upset his post caused and felt discouraged by all the negativity in the thread.

But some Singaporeans were good sports and asked OP to keep the post and not to take the comments to heart. They explained that the negative comments were just Singaporeans poking fun at a bizarre situation.

According to recipe52, it is a dish that originated from Karachi, Pakistan circa 2000-2002. The name was coined by Bohra wedding caterers in Karachi and the dish has no connection at all with Singapore. It was given a fancy and exotic name to entice the wedding crowds.

It is basically fried noodles mixed with plain or fried rice, Manchurian style chicken and topped off with copious amounts of Russian sauce.

While the dish has nothing to do with Singapore, there is in fact a small Bohra community in Singapore. The Bohra community is a Shia sect in Islam and are predominantly found in India (particularly Gujarat), Pakistan, Yemen and the Middle East. The Bohra cuisine is heavily influenced by Gujarati, Yemeni and Arabic tastes and style of cooking.

The dish is made of layers of noodles, rice, chicken, and sauce that is meant to be mixed together and shared with friends and family. While it looks bizarre to the Singaporean eye, the concept of shared platters is not new to Singapore. Nasi ambeng and biryani platters are commonly eaten around Singapore, especially in mosques during festivals prior to Covid-19.

Singaporean Rice may look unappetizing to the local palate, but it is made to the taste of those people who created it. While the name of the dish may annoy locals, there is no harm in educating those who have no idea what Singapore’s local cuisine is.
