It was after the tragedy that the colleague suspected Karunyah needed the coffee because she may have suffered from a lack of sleep.
She was said to have taken sick leaves and broke down in the senior nurse manager’s office. Karunyah wanted to go back to Malaysia and it was alleged that her leave was not approved due to shortage of manpower.

Netizens sent condolences to the family and friends of Karunyah.
It is best to seek help through such outlets.
Others shared their own experience and called on everyone to be kind.
Some called out the management for accountability.
Former colleagues and staff also called out the management for workplace toxicity.
Frontline healthcare workers have been bearing the brunt of the pandemic for the past 2 years. Their mental wellbeing should be made a priority especially after this tragedy. Rest in peace, Karunyah.
Reporter’s Opinions: Clapping for healthcare workers doesn’t do jackshit for their wellbeing. Even the recent news of them getting a special bonus is not enough to appreciate their sacrifices in the face of a global pandemic.
All these alleged reports about SGH management seem to suggest that they really need to do something about it. Personally, I am inclined to agree with the allegations because of my experience with them recently. I’ve seen how overworked their nurses are as well as how irresponsible some of the seniors can be. Some are even unprofessional when dealing with patients.
But nurses should not be punished because of this small group of terrible ones. In every industry, there are both good and bad workers and we should bear that in mind before we lash out at them for anything.
