Sensational Allegations Against The Singapore Prison Service, POFMA Issued
A lawsuit filed against K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs by Malaysian rights group, Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) has been thrown out by the High Court of Malaysia.
LFL filed a lawsuit on 24 January against Minister Shanmugam when he issued an order for them to correct the statements made on Singapore’s execution methods under the POFMA act.
On 16 January, the organization claimed that prison officers in Singapore were instructed to kick the back of the neck for a prisoner in the event that the execution by hanging failed in an attempt to cover up failed executions.
The allegation was refuted by the Ministry of Home Affairs as “untrue, baseless and preposterous” on 22 January.
“These allegations are entirely unfounded,” the ministry said in a statement.
The lawsuit was thrown out on 21 January as LFL did not serve the necessary court papers against Mr Shanmugam and subsequently did not renew the papers for unknown reasons.
“LFL made sensational allegations against the Singapore Prison Service, and the treatment of prisoners, and promised to put forward evidence. But nothing was put forward to substantiate its wild and completely untrue allegations.” -MHA
Reporter’s Opinions: There are always rumours about our judicial system and executions. But seriously, are you insane? You think this is a Russian movie where our wardens are trained to be killers?
If you feel that you’re right, then fight for it. But the fact that you decided not to show that you somehow know the allegations are false.
Or there are skeletons in the closet over the other side and opening it up will cause trouble.
