My HDB Was Built On A Cemetery And I Bought It Quite Cheap, Now I Regret
A recent post about a haunted HDB unit in the west side of Singapore went viral with over 2.7k shares sent chills down the spines of locals.
In the post, Cyrus Lee recounted the hauntings experienced by his friends who lived in the 4 room apartment at Jurong West block 840. The friend bought the said apartment at a cheap price but regretted it later when he did some research about the area he was going to live in for the next few years.
“I came to know from research online and other families nearby that Jurong West was previously a cemetery like lim chu kang cemetery (which explained the close distance) and it had been reclaimed for the housing projects. Aka which meant I lived above a cemetery/dead people. More I research, more I find out that many blocks in Jurong West are haunted through the plentiful ghost stories about that place.”

From strange voices to ghostly apparitions, this family has seen it all. In one of the accounts, the friend saw dark shadows darting in the hall from the corner of his eyes while he was watching TV outside alone at 2 am. He then heard a child’s voice saying “Mama” multiple times.
This is when it gets creepier, their next door neighbour also had encounters of the 3rd kind when they made a friendly visit. They claimed to have seen a young boy about 5 years old playing ball at the staircase near the haunted unit.
“It was when a new neighbour moved in next door and when they came over to get to know us. My wife was at the gate chatting with them. And my daughter and I was watching TV in the hall. The next evening after dinner in the hawker centre, we met them in the lift. Then, during our conversation, they mentioned, “Where is your boy?” We told them that we only got a daughter, but they insisted that they saw themself, my daughter in the hall watching TV and there was a boy at the staircase playing and he was about 5 years old! Both husband & wife saw that!”
Perhaps the most alarming experience of all was when his wife’s head was pushed hard while she was showering in the toilet.
“It was in the afternoon; my wife was washing her hair in the toilet. As she was sitting on the stool bending forward holding the shower above her head washing her hair. Suddenly, she felt that someone gave her a hard push above her head. She unable to see that time coz her eyes were covered with shampoo. Then immediately, she opens her eyes and call out to my daughter. She found that my daughter was indeed playing in the hall all the time.”
Netizens shared their own experiences with haunted houses in the comments section. Clowns are evil as presented here.
It is always a good idea to cleanse any space you’ll be living in for a while.
One shared about how the area itself seems to be eerie.
Some shared tips on what to do before buying any houses on sale.
While others were skeptical and said that most HDB flats in Singapore are built upon old cemeteries.
The family decided to move out of the flat when the hauntings got too much for them. They manage to sell off the unit albeit at a loss after 2.5 years. If the story seems familiar, it is because there was a similar account back in 2006 involving a maisonette unit in Jurong West as well.

In the battle between East vs West, this is one that both areas share the title for being the most haunted in Singapore for now. Take every ghost story with a pinch of salt, not all are true, some are exaggerated for entertainment purposes and the clout that comes with it. However, spirits and demons are real, just learn to coexist in peace. The 7th month is just round the corner, just remember to be respectful to other people’s beliefs and all will be well.

Reporter’s Opinions: Frankly, his account seems to be exaggerated for content purposes.
However, spirits exist and sometimes they reside in the flats because their dwellings are cleared to make way for high rise buildings
Houses and places that have been left empty for a period of time will end up housing Caspers and shit. So when one moves in, you’re technically invading their space unknowingly. It is very important to carry out some form of ruqyah, pagar rumah or cleansing once you’ve moved in.
I had a friend who shared that before a certain island here was cleared to make way for that famous hotel and tourist attraction, the “natives” had to be relocated to another part of said island. It allegedly took a whole team of experts in the paranormal field days to “strike a deal” with them.
Personally, I’ve had my own spooky experience as well living in a certain area in the East. My family lived with hantus for quite some time till we got an ustaz to cleanse the house. From smelling her eau de chempaka to seeing “her” chilling on my sofa to hearing spooky shit, it was quite a ride. The particular unit we lived in was left empty for 2 years before we moved in so go figure.
7th month is just round the corner and I bet there will be more encounters of the other kind. Only now, will they be able to lepak bawah block haunting people, considering the current Covid situation?
