Muhyiddin’s Speech Upsets Malaysian Netizen, Jokes About Raising Blue Flag Instead Of White Or Black
A recent video of PM Muhyiddin Yasin went viral when he made a comment about raising the blue flag instead of a black or white one in jest during an interview.
And here's the video of PM Muhyiddin Yassin telling you not to worry, the government knows where aid is needed, no need to raise white or black flag, but "raising the blue flag, it's fine. [laughs]" pic.twitter.com/CnJFowUdQ2 — emmanuelsamarathisa (@esshimself) July 15, 2021
“Tak payah naik bendera putih, hitam. Nak naik bendera biru tak apa (ketawa). Maksud saya tadi, kita tahu di mana, kementerian ada rekod dan saya dimaklum oleh (Menteri Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat) Rina (Harun) tadi, penerima itu dia akan catat,”
Roughly translated, he said there is no need to raise black or white flags because the government has records and those in need will be taken care of.
The blue flag he referred to is the Pakatan Nasional flag.
Twitterati were understandably incensed at his tasteless joke especially in the time of a pandemic where the numbers are increasing daily at an alarming rate.
Some questioned his humanity as a leader.
how can he make a joke out of this?! #KerajaanPembunuh #MuhyiddinLetakJawatan https://t.co/mrg2PoCOUw — slut dragon (@sltdragon) July 15, 2021
Even in jest, there are things that one should not say especially when the entire nation is baying for your blood.
Maybe a little sensitivity will go a long way.
Over on Instagram, a few celebrities including Sharnaaz Ahmad who is known for being vocal, voiced his opinions.
There are those who countered Muhyiddin’s claims, saying that it’s not easy to retrieve the records due to it not being updated.
PM Muhyiddin is currently not favoured by the nation due to how the pandemic is being handled. With increasing numbers of infected people daily and the socio-economic problems that arise due to Covid 19, the people are asking him to step down as Prime Minister, calling his government “kerajaan pembunuh”
However in a meeting held recently, the cabinet voted unanimously for PM Muhyiddin’s leadership much to the ire of the people.
Running a country in the midst of a pandemic is not easy, however it doesn’t hurt to be a little more tactful for not many will appreciate “dark humor” especially when people are suffering and dying everyday.
Reporter’s Opinion: Nak kata bodoh, ada otak, ada pelajaran.
I get it you wanna lighten the mood with that little anecdote. ho ho ho, not that funny when people are starving and dying not only from the virus but from hunger as well.
It seems like you’re laughing at them for being unable to boot you from your seat despite their efforts. But remember, even your predecessors thought that way. Just have a little more tact can?
Even Najib is stressed at the state of the country right now.
