Maisurah, The Pregnant Woman Allegedly Pushed By SDA, Shares Her Story
Mai, the pregnant woman who was pushed by an alleged SDA, shares her experience with our Plan B reporter in an exclusive interview.
WHAT LED TO THE CHASE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Mai: We wanted to know why they were taking photos of our children. My husband approached one of the Chinese SDA to ask him but he rudely said,
The Alleged SDA
“Nothing that concerns you. I will delete them later.”
Despite claiming to be a SDA, the man my husband approached wasn’t displaying a pass to prove his identity.
What was concerning was how they started running after my husband went after them. If they were really doing their jobs, there’s no reason to run away when questioned. They could have just explained to us and we would have been understanding.
As parents, we naturally get concerned when strangers take pictures of our children randomly.
WHAT HAPPEN AFTER YOUR HUSBAND CHASED THEM DOWN?
Mai: My husband went after them on his bicycle after they shoved him for questioning them. He wanted clarification as to who they were and why they were taking photos of our children at the playground.
He asked one of the men but he received no answers. When I finally caught up with them, I started to take their photos. I was standing at the grass patch and that was when the Malay SDA pushed me down and I landed on the left side of my tummy.
I am 9 months pregnant and I was still treated as such. We called the police and they arrived 10 minutes later.
DID YOU DO ANYTHING TO THE SDA FOR HIM TO REACT THAT WAY?
Mai: I was just walking and taking photos of the other 2 SDAs who were running away from the scene. I didn’t do anything to the SDA for him to push me out of the way.
While I was trying to get up, he kicked my head to keep me down. I sustained injuries on my cheeks, jaw and under my eye due to that.
My husband held the Malay SDA down while waiting for the police to arrive. But by that time, the other two had already managed to run away.
HOW ARE YOU COPING AFTER THE ORDEAL?
Mai: Thankfully, my baby is safe. I am still suffering from headaches and pain from the fall. But I cannot go through any X-rays or scans as I am still pregnant. For now, I am just learning how to deal with the pain.
HOW SURE ARE YOU THAT THEY ARE ALL SDAs?
Mai: I am not sure if they are real SDAs. I only found one pass on the grass patch but the other two did not display any passes.
HAS ANYONE COME FORWARD AS A WITNESS OR TO PROVIDE EXTRA INFORMATION AFTER YOUR POST WENT VIRAL?
Mai: One gave me his Facebook profile but nothing much really. We are still waiting for the police to get back to us as it is still under investigation.
WHAT ARE YOUR CONCERNS?
Mai: Like I mentioned in my post, why didn’t they identify themselves when asked? Are they allowed to take photos whenever they like and then delete them later? Why didn’t they give an explanation when my husband asked them?
As parents, we have a right to be concerned when strangers photograph our children outside. After what I went through, will disciplinary actions be taken against the 3 SDAs?
These are all concerns that I have with regards to the situation. I just hope the authorities can shed some light on this soon.
Reporter’s Opinions: It goes back to accountability. The statement released by HDB is vague. If it was an accident, why did you flee the scene?
If innocent, why scared?
The pass that Mai found is also rather suspicious. As far as I am aware, SDAs are usually in red but if they are in plain clothes, they are supposed to display their passes to identify themselves.
Let’s hope the authorities get to the bottom of this. Pushing and kicking a pregnant lady is despicable.
