M’sians Help Elderly Man After His Only Son Scolded Him Over The Phone
A video of an uncle who looked crestfallen after his son rejected his plea for RM100 to repair his hearing aid went viral on TikTok.
In the video, the uncle could be heard explaining the situation to his only son and pleading him to bank in the money needed to repair the hearing aid.
The son, however, reacted in a way that was unexpected as he rejected his father’s plea by saying that it was too expensive, citing all the other expenses he had.
His son then ended the phone call, saying that he was busy.
The crying old uncle was then approached by concerned citizens, offering him food and help.
He was offered the money he needed by various people who overheard the conversation he had with his son. A woman mentioned that he looked like her late father.
The uncle was so moved by their gesture that he then cried tears of gratitude.
Netizens were proud of how a few good souls came out to help a person in need.
It is important to take care of those in need in the society and Malaysians are known for their “kita jaga kita” (we take care of us) spirit.
Here’s the twist though, the whole video was a social experiment carried out by “AkuPeduli” YouTube creators. Their name means “I care” in English.
Towards the end of the video, the creators came out to explain the social experiment to the Good Samaritans.
Their intention was to highlight the goodness that still exists in the community as well as a general reminder for everyone to be kind to their aging parents.
They also included a disclaimer saying that they hoped the video serves as a lesson for the general public, and not a new tactic for scammers to adopt.
