Kiasu Singaporeans Q for OMEGA x Swatch Collaboration Only To Be Disappointed
Singaporeans spent their Saturday morning queuing up for Omega x Swatch collaboration watches proving that fear of missing out (FOMO) was real. Most of them were left disappointed when they had to be turned away.
People started queuing as early as 8 am, 2 hours before the Swatch shops at ION Orchard and Marina Bay Sands Shoppe were open.

According to a post made by Instagram user, Deanna, the queue wasn’t managed properly at MBS as there were 2 different ones forming.

She also said that the store didn’t seem to be opening due to the overwhelming queues outside.

This was the situation 7 minutes before the official opening of the Swatch store at MBS.
Swatch only had 100 of the timepieces up for grabs on the first day of the launch.

Netizens had their fun in the comments section, saying that FOMO is real.
Some said that Swatch was not at fault because they did not say that the collection was limited edition.
But Singaporeans are not the only ones who were queuing for the latest drop. Australia, Hongkong and KL also reported massive queues for the Moonswatch collection.

Swatch released a statement saying that the watches are not limited edition and will be made available for the weeks to come.

The collection is an innovative take on the iconic Omega Speedsmaster Moonwatch which is an expensive collectors item. Swatch and Omega collaborated to launch 11 Bioceramic Moonswatch Collection, an affordable take on the iconic watch.
While the original Omega Speedsmaster Moonwatch can start from a whopping SGD8850, the Moonswatch priced at SGD372, is an affordable alternative for those who want to own an Omega.
Queuing up for it on the day of the launch however, is asking for trouble. Remember what happened the last time people queued when IKEA opened in the west side? The government just eased restrictions, don’t let FOMO be the reason the restrictions are put back in place.
Reporter’s Opinions: Wahhhh I had it with you kiasu mofos queuing up for anything and everything under the sun. I understand some may want to get it as a gift for their loved ones and those can be excused. But the rest of you?
It is not a limited edition timepiece. You really think they will stock more than 100 pieces on the day of the launch? Given the price point, they will purposely not have more than 100 on hand because of market testing.
They create scarcity to generate hype. It’s all marketing but people fall for it time and again. You cannot be angry because they never mentioned that it was a limited edition collection.
Let this be a lesson to all of you.
