Indian PM Modi in Singapore for official visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Singapore on 4 September for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
This is Modi’s fifth visit to the country, the last one back in 2018
In the video, Modi and Wong shared a hug at the Istana, where they caught up over an informal dinner.
Many Singapore netizens have responded to the video and photo of the hug by welcoming Modi and the friendship of our countries, while some expressed disapproval of Modi’s rule in India and, in turn, of Singapore’s friendliness with him.
Modi also met and spoke with several other Singapore leaders on 5 September, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
During the visit, Singapore and India announced the upgrading of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
At Parliament House on 5 September, Modi and Wong witnessed the signing of four memorandums of understanding for cooperation between the two countries in semiconductors, digital technologies, skills development, and healthcare.
