Food Bank Singapore Launches Special Vending Machines, Dispensing Essentials For The Needy
The Food Bank Singapore launched a special vending machine at Jalan Besar for needy families to get their necessities.
Despite being a first world country, there are families who still struggle to put food on the table and for these people, the initiative serves as a reprieve for them.
Piloted by Jalan Besar MP Denise Phua, the dried goods vending machine allows members of the public to contribute daily necessities for those who need them the most. The residents will be able to purchase the items using a special card that is topped up with 50 credits monthly.
Situated at Jalan Besar CC, #LoveConnect Hub holds different combinations of dried foods in transparent compartments. Residents only have to tap their card on the machine to pay for their necessities with the stored credits. Other items like clothing and toys are also available for purchase.
Denise Phua mentioned in a Facebook post that donations are welcomed but volunteers are still consolidating the list of items needed.
Previously, such vending machines were placed in Toa Payoh estate to help ease the difficulties these underprivileged families face. Let’s hope that more initiatives like this will be launched in other estates.
Reporter’s Opinions: The Food Bank has been around to collect food items around Singapore to provide food for the needy.
This is a food for thought though. What more can we do to help the underprivileged to empower them? The fact that they are still struggling to get basic necessities is a cause for concern. Especially when we hold first world country status.
As much as we want the nation to progress, we cannot afford to forget them and allow them to fall in between the cracks.
