Fly For 3 Hours, Take Off And Land In Changi Airport, $288-$588 For Flights To Nowhere

Take Off And Land In Changi Airport

For those of you who miss flying, SIA is looking at launching a flight-to-nowhere that will depart and land in Changi Airport.

The plan is to offer a bundle package including staycations, shopping vouchers at Jewel Changi Airport and a limo service to ferry customers around.

That's a good plan

The spokesperson for Singapore Air Charter, Stefan Wood is confident that there will be demand for the services should it be launched.

“As travel opens, the novelty will certainly wear off. However, when bundled with a staycation, limo transfers and airport shopping experiences, people will lap it up.” – Stefan Wood

He approached SIA about the possibility of setting up a joint venture to provide flights to nowhere using Airbus A-350 planes from SIA, considering how SIA has operated such a service before for the beneficiaries of the Community Chest in 2015.

Following in the footsteps of EVA Air in Taiwan, amongst other airlines worldwide, the flights to nowhere is an attempt to cope with the impact of the pandemic on airline and tourism industry.

There are talks about a partnership with Singapore Tourism Board to allow the usage of the tourism credits that will be given out by the government to partially pay for the flights.

“Some people may find flights to nowhere a novelty and they may be willing to give it a try and participate just for the thrill of it,” – Michael Chiam, Ngee Ann Polytechnic senior lecturer

If the initiative is successful, you can look forward to a 3 hour flight costing between an average of $288-588 for economy class and business class respectively. This is of course a rough estimate based on a survey done on 308 people.

Reporter’s Opinions: For those of you who miss flying, this sounds like an amazing opportunity to fly again even when it’s to nowhere.

For the grounded stewards and stewardesses, maybe this will help them retain their jobs?

I am interested in the bundle package though. I mean, staycays are the rage right now so it’ll be interesting to see how many hotels are willing to collaborate.

Whatever it is, this will somehow help the airline and tourism industry tide over this difficult times.
