A TikTok video showing a lecturer lashing out at a student during an online Chinese oral test went viral recently with 2.7 million views. The video was posted by @varsh_0, the student in the video itself.

She started by saying her name and proceeded to read the script for the test. However, midway through the reading, her lecturer rudely interrupted her, by shouting out “Not yet! Not yet! Follow my instructions!”. Afterwards, the lecturer demanded to check @varsh_0’s name and do a mic check prior to starting the actual test which explained her angry tone when @varsh_0 continued reading the script in the beginning.

In the comments section, she explained that she was the last student in an almost 3 hour long test period and that she was at fault for not following instructions. The lecturer also had a bad mood as she had to deal with several absentees for the test.

As of publishing, @chocolateechipcookiee mentioned that she has reported the lecturer to the management committee in the university.

Reporter’s Opinions: I’m sorry sister but you are way too kind. You did well and I don’t know the language but your pronunciation sounds superb to me.

No words can sugarcoat your lecturer’s actions. No student should ever be treated that way when he/she is sincerely learning something new. This is not the bloody army. Do the job and treat your students with basic human decency because they aren’t robots without feelings. If you can’t, don’t apply for the job in the first place.
