Chatbot Aims To Be An Outlet For Victims Of Abuse
In the light of the recent outpouring of confessions from assault victims, a chatbot on an online platform named “Owh My Bae” was established as an outlet for victims of domestic violence to reach out and seek help.
Bae or Before Anyone Else is described as a “one-stop platform to help women protect themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and virtually” and it is catered to women between the ages of 18 to 25.
Nurul Amiera Noor Azahar, an alleged sexual assault victim, came up with the idea after the ordeal she went through 4 years ago. In a recounting to Coconuts KL, Nurul shared her experience as a victim of someone she trusted.
She mentioned the trauma led her to seek psychotherapy and medication to help her cope with her ordeal. Nurul feels that women shouldn’t have to go through what she went through alone and that was how her brainchild “Owh My Bae” was born in 2018.
What started out as an online community platform focused on providing support for women experiencing relationship problems, it grew to provide resources to help women defend themselves in any life-threatening situations.
Nurul said that women will be taught how to protect themselves if they were to be harassed in public by making use of things in the surrounding as form of defence and the steps to take when making a report.
They are currently hosting a weekly 2-hour informative virtual session through Google Classroom where women are taught various topics ranging from self-protection methods to debunking myths about menstruation.
Luahan Wartawan: This is an amazing initiative by a survivor.
To be assaulted by someone you trust and to come out of that trauma with the desire to ensure other women won’t have to go through their ordeal alone? That is the kindest and the most boss move ever.
You want to empower women? Help them by becoming their voice and providing useful resources instead of just lip service and white noise. Do it for them and not for your own personal agenda.
I appreciate the courage of such women who choose to come forward and share their ordeal just so that other victims won’t have to suffer in silence.
