Bumper Of Mercedes Charred After Parking Too Close To Hungry Ghost Festival Offerings
In a post that has since went viral on Facebook, the bumper of a Mercedes was charred after parking too close to a bunch of lighted candles.
The picture of the damage was shared on Singapore Road Accident Facebook group has since garnered over 2.6k shares. The paintwork was severely charred, exposing the steel frame underneath.
The candles were also bent which suggests that the Mercedes had reversed into them. However, according to Lianhe Wanbao, the fire wasn’t large and that the driver was able to put out the fire before it could cause any more damage.
SCDF issued a series of fire safety tips for worshippers in light of the 7th lunar month. They urged worshippers to be responsible while burning.
The last part of the infographic clearly says to avoid burning candles or joss sticks on grass patches or fields because it is a fire hazard. But if you think reversing your car into burning candles can extinguish them, you could be wrong. Candle flame burns slow and paint is fuel for it to burn longer.
Reporter’s Opinion: As much as we can be understanding and tolerant towards other people’s faith, fire hazard is a cause for concern.
One may argue that the candle wax will burn out before it reaches the grass patch but if you were to factor in elements of nature like the wind and dry grass patches, a small ember can turn into an unwanted bonfire in a matter of seconds.
Burn responsibly. And those who are guilty of throwing thrash(cigarette butts) in the burners, stop that. You are contributing to the fire hazard issues.
