Budak Lajak Taught A Valuable Lesson By Malaysians For Racing On Open Roads
Recently the woman who caused the death of 6 “budak lajak” gained traction again when she was released on bail. She was charged in court in 2017 to serve 6 years for causing the death of the teenagers on “lajak bicycles”. This case gained public interest as “budak lajak” are a nuisance on the roads with their modified brakeless bicycles.
A video of “budak lajak” caught for reckless cycling on the road went viral online. Budak lajak refers to drag-racers on modified fixed gear bicycles who pull dangerous stunts on the roads. These modified bicycles can go up to 60-70km/h.
They were then asked to board up a “van jenazah” (muslim hearse van) which are traditionally used to transport the dead to cemeteries. These vans are also used to catch Muslims who eat, drink and smoke in public during Ramadan in Malaysia.

In the video, the man could be heard asking a youth what he was doing in the area at that time. He denied that he was racing, he was just there to hang out with his friends.
Most of them had various excuses when asked if they were drag-racing with their bikes.
In an effort to get the truth from the youngsters, the adults who caught them decided to scare them a little by asking the oldest one to lie down in the coffin. He used the term “keinsafan” which means to come to a realization of the consequences of one’s actions.
Netizens in the comments section said that these people were doing the right thing in trying to stop more accidents from happening on the roads because of “budak lajak”.
Most said that fear is the only way to instill caution in these youths.
One mentioned that there is no way for motorists to be aware of these “budak lajak” because they appear out of nowhere. Due to the nature of road policy, if these youths end up dead after crashing into a car, the motorists are the ones who will be held responsible.
As always, the race card will always be pulled in cases like these.
A quick search on Google shows the dangerous stunts that these youths pull on the roads. This is what is called the “superman”. At the speed they’re going, it is a cause for concern as crashing would mean terrible injuries.
The whole stunt with the hearse van was probably just to scare the youths from riding their modified bicycles on the roads. It is dangerous as the bikes can go really fast because most of them have no brakes.
Reporter’s Opinions: Oh the intoxication of youth as adrenaline courses through your veins when you zoom down the roads at night, thinking that nothing can hurt you. But as much as it wants you to believe that you’re immortal, you’re not.
You are made of flesh, blood and bone. You will get injured when you crash at the speeds you’re going. It’s physics.
When you do crash into cars or vice versa, people will be held responsible for your injuries and deaths. At the speed you’re going, it is impossible for motorists to brake in time.
You can have fun but not at the expense of your own lives and others. Ride your bikes somewhere else, not the open roads and definitely not the highways.
