‘Attention All Passengers’, Japan Airlines Becomes The First To Impose Gender Neutral Gr

Attention All Passengers

Japan Airlines (JAL) is going to adopt gender inclusive greetings like “greetings everyone” and “welcome everyone” from 1st October onboard flights and in airports worldwide.

According to Yutaro Iwasaki, publicist for JAL, they have been promoting diversity in the community since 2014 and this is a step in the right direction. Their recent move was to allow female flight attendants to opt for trousers instead of skirts to be more comfortable onboard.

It is not the first time JAL broke boundaries and made history. In 2010, JAL express, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines hired the first ever female commercial airline captain, Ari Fuji. By opting to do gender-neutral greetings makes JAL the first Asian airlines to do so.

Female pilots were unheard of in Japan and Ari was too small for her to qualify for Japan’s Civil Aviation College. After obtaining her license in the US, it still wasn’t easy for Ari to get a pilot’s position in a male dominated industry. She then joined a trainee program with JAL express and made history as the first female commercial pilot for Japan.

Gender-inclusive language has been adopted by many airlines around the world, including Air Canada and easyJet to name a few.

It is a step in the right direction as it is a simple greeting, making it easier for both the flight attendants and the passengers.

Reporter’s Opinions: This is a big step for Japan where gender equality issues have been plaguing them for the longest time. JAL is doing good I must say.

I like it

It is definitely much easier for the flight attendants to just greet the passengers in a simple way. It’s also much more casual.

But the real question is, when will we be able to fly again?
