Air Asia CEO Under Fire After Deleting Comments About New Recruitment Drive, Ignoring Ex-Workers
CEO of Air Asia, Tony Fernandes, was slammed by netizens after he deleted @zamehady’s question on Instagram about the disregard for his retrenched workers who were seen as “family” after they started a recruitment drive looking for new staff.
Some netizens like Belle (@hanabelle) called for a boycott of the recruitment drive until Air Asia started hiring ex-employees again.
Others shared similar sentiments. A netizen shared her tedious experience of applying for a job with Air Asia. She was rejected by Air Asia 5 times before deciding to further her studies. Now, she is a successful surgeon.
As of the time of publishing, Air Asia has yet to comment on the situation.
Reporter’s Opinions: Unfortunately, this is the muddled reality of working nowadays. No matter how much effort you put in or how loyal you are to an organisation, they will always find alternatives and replace you without a second thought.
IMO, I think he should have considered past workers first before getting new blood in. Morally, it’s the right thing to do but that’s just how companies function nowadays.
That’s why, always upgrade your skillsets and find new opportunities rather than staying stagnant. Do what you need to do to survive and always have a backup plan. Screw what others think and just do it cause you only have yourself at the end of the day.
